Hey everyone,  I wanted to talk to you about Icebreaker by Hannah Grace.

I read lots of hockey romances, or I’m, like, drawn to hockey romances. I don’t know why. I can never remember the titles of them off the top of my head or how many I’ve read, but—but I will remember this one (Icebreaker Book)  because this is a good one.

Don't Let the Cute Cover Fool You Because This Book Will Blow Your Mind

It was just so good. It was so good.

I’ve been hearing about this book everywhere. It popped up all over my feed, and after seeing so many people rave about it, I had to check it out for myself.

If you love hockey romances, slow-burn chemistry, then you must read this amazing book called ICEBREAK by Hannah Grace

If you love:
✔️ Sports romances
✔️ Hockey players
✔️ Figure skaters
✔️ Dual POV

Then Icebreaker is for you.

Icebreaker Book Summary

Icebreaker is about — a girl named Anastasia. She’s a figure skater at a college in California, trying to qualify for the Olympics. She’s a pairs skater, so she has a partner she’s been skating with throughout college.

Then there’s Nate, the captain of the same college’s hockey team. He’s set to go pro after school, and his team? Yeah, they’re kind of known for their pranks.

So, something happens—one of the rinks on campus, their ice-making machine condenser thingy, gets broken, and a whole rink is shut down. That forces the hockey team to share ice time with the figure skaters.

This makes a lot of people really anxious because they have competitions coming up, and Anastasia is pissed about this. She hates the hockey players. She thinks they’re, you know, kind of all the same, and she wants nothing to do with them.

So, there’s kind of this, like, animosity. I don’t want to call it enemies-to-lovers, but there’s definitely tension.

And then, of course, things happen.

The Hype & My Hesitation

Icebreaker is, I believe, Icebreaker book is Hannah Grace’s first book. I read, like, the author’s note at the end, and I think she said that this was her debut. I saw it all over social media—like, this book has been everywhere—and, of course, I was like, I have to read this book because it’s about a figure skater and a hockey player who hate each other but then don’t.

I looked at everyone’s description of the tropes, and they all said the Icebreaker book is super romantic . I thought, “Okay, I can do this!”

Hannah Grace’s book Icebreaker is about 400 pages

I was really daunted by the book’s length, and I saw quite a few people say they got bored in the middle because it was too long. So, I wondered if I should even start it. I wasn’t in a good reading place this month, and I needed something that people were raving about—something enjoyable and happy, a break from my planned reads.

Typically, I hate reading romances that are so long, but this one—this one broke that stereotype for me.

Star Rating

I gave this book 5 stars! I freaking loved it. It was such a happy, good, spicy read. It was just perfect—perfect for this time of the year and a great sports romance.

I loved the characters, the different facets of the story, and the character development.

This one? I could not rate it anything but 5 stars. It was just so good.

For the book’s length, I will rate this book 5 stars. However, on my scale, it fits more as a 3 stars in content—it doesn’t have multiple partners or anything extreme. It’s purely about the quantity and explicitness.

This is an 18+ adult book—not a cute teen romance. No, no, not at all!

My Spoiler-Free Thoughts

I always try to keep my romance reviews spoiler-free, but it’s hard with this one since there’s so much storyline. So, I may do a little spoiler section at the end.

I really loved the character development in this book. There was a strong focus on the characters, which I don’t always love since I’m more plot-driven. But I loved these characters. Getting both perspectives was great—it didn’t bother me at all.

I really loved Anastasia. There was so much truthfulness in how the book portrayed therapy and using skills to improve relationships. It felt so real. As a reader, I could connect with her, and I think many people will, too.

Same with Nate—his struggles with family, team responsibilities, and friendships were very relatable. It reminded me of The Deal by Elle Kennedy. The hockey house setup in both books felt the same in my head, which was funny.
